I’m a senior academic editor with over 10 years of experience working across a range of subjects in the fields of Business, Economics and Statistics. In particular, I’m a specialist in copy editing LaTeX documents for journal paper authors from non-native English-speaking countries. I genuinely thrive on the unique challenge of making the true meaning of every document I receive shine through in the clearest and most concise manner. I am extremely thorough, never miss a deadline and pride myself on delivering consistent, readable and logically flowing revisions.
I am an International Relations Professional who holds a PhD in Economics and has academic, government, and industry experience in diverse and multicultural environments. I also hold an MSc degree in Geopolitics and International Relations. My interests span over multiple areas of the international relations field (e.g. diplomacy, security, international political economy, global governance, geopolitics). In addition to the research and writing skills, I also have strong computational simulation abilities, including social network analysis. I have several refereed publications in journals and conference proceedings, as well as other articles. I have also been involved in research grants sponsored by the European Union as well as international professional bodies, such as the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers). I am an academic at heart and I enjoy editing and making good research shine, and help authors in their academic endeavors.
Editing is for me a means by which I share my diverse technical background and experience. I spent my junior years modelling and optimising business systems and industrial problems, and now enjoy applying analytical techniques to complex social (and especially rural economic development) problems. I recently qualified as a veterinarian. I spend some time editing PhD theses, as well as journal articles of colleagues. This keeps me involved and up to date with what is happening in various fields, and brings fresh perspectives to my own consulting work. I am fluent in English and my native Afrikaans, and can read a bit of German.

My lifelong interest in life sciences has guided me through various research positions in microbiology, preclinical research, plant biochemistry, and bioinformatics. This broad background gave me the confidence to transition to scientific editing. I highly appreciate that editing a manuscript allows me to learn about the newest research in a life science topic even before most experts in this field get a chance to read it. I make sure to be up to date on the subject of a manuscript by reading some related key publications while working on the introduction. I always edit the main text before working on the abstract to ensure that the latter highlights critical key findings consistent with the manuscript’s conclusions. Authors appreciate coherent editing, as sometimes indicated by their feedback. One client put it nicely: “He pays close attention to the whole manuscript and finishes it as wonderful as the beginning.” This comment is an excellent description of my main objective when working on a manuscript.
My professional career has encompassed a wide array including extensive evaluation, composition and editing of scientific/medical findings and materials. My wet-lab research career has included consideration of infectious, immunological, genetic, innate and conditional factors in the pathogenic processes of diseases. I have addressed questions at the organism, cellular, molecular and clinical levels with the results published in high-quality peer-reviewed journals. Beyond my hands-on laboratory experience, I have over eleven years of experience as a biomedical research consultant. My services are client driven and typically include advisement and/or oversight of experimental approach and design; data processing and interpretation; and preparation, review, and editing of scientific, medical, or clinical findings. My career has exposed me to a variety of disciplines ranging from basic science to clinical settings to commercial interests. I have worked with personnel with expertise ranging from novices having little or no prior experience to those with many years. I have had the opportunity to consult on an even wider field of scientific and medical topics and serve as an ad hoc reviewer for many scientific/clinical journals. My experiences have given me a solid foundation for understanding, evaluating, composing, and editing information/data from a wide range of sources.
